Factoid
- Steven Spielberg was offered the chance to direct this film, but the producers balked at the salary he asked for. They decided to wait until they saw how “this fish movie” [Jaws (1975)] that he had just completed did at the box office. The movie was a huge success, and Spielberg went on to other projects.
- Clark Kent’s hair and Superman’s part on opposite sides.
- To obtain the musculature to convincingly play Superman, Christopher Reeve underwent a bodybuilding regime supervised by David Prowse, the man who played Darth Vader in the original Star Wars (1977) trilogy.
- Marlon Brando received $4 million for his ten minutes on screen.
- The credits sequence cost more than most films made up to that point.
- Christopher Reeve worked out so much during the making of the film that the travelling matte shots taken of him at the beginning of the shoot did not match the later shots, and had to be re-taken.
- CAMEO(Kirk Alyn): Lois Lane’s father. Alyn played Superman in the serials of “Superman”.

Quotes from the movie
–

“Behind the Scenes“
- Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Jor-El wears an alien device with an uncanny resemblance to a Rolex watch on his wrist.
- Revealing mistakes: When Superman screams in anger after he finds out that Lois Lane is dead, he reveals his tooth fillings.
- Crew or equipment visible: After jumping across in front of the moving train, a reflection of the cameraman can be seen in the train windows as Clark runs home.
- Continuity: Young Clark Kent in Smallville is in high school during what appears to be the mid-1950’s, as evidenced by the clothing style, cars and music such as “Rock Around the Clock.” However, later in the movie, it is stated that Krypton exploded in the year 1948, placing Clark’s high school years in the 1960’s (and in fact, Superman III (1983) outright places him in the Class of 1965).
- Revealing mistakes: When young Clark is racing the train you can see that his feet are not even close to the ground while he’s running, and his speed does not match the movement of his feet.
- Crew or equipment visible: As Clark and Lois are exiting the Daily Planet, a crew member is reflected in the revolving door when Clark gets jammed in it.
- Continuity: When he is spinning the world backward, the two shots are reversed relative to Superman’s direction of flying.
